ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for IT and Telecom Anusha Rahman met a delegation led by Haier Group’s senior officials to assess the feasibility of mobile manufacturing units. Haier officials apprised the minister of their own experience in Pakistan since 2001 when the company began producing air conditioners and other home appliances. Since then, Haier has gained a significant share in the local market, ranking number two. After next generation mobile technology (3G and 4G) was introduced in Pakistan, a lucrative market for smartphones emerged. In this regard, Haier is interested in establishing a smartphone manufacturing plant. Haier said it would like to transfer technology to the country for setting up the manufacturing plant.
