Agro-products: Finding a way into Russian markets

The government is mulling various options to tap Russian markets, particularly for Pakistan’s agro-products.


A high-level meeting, co-chaired by Federal Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir and Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Sikandar Hayat Bosan, was held in Islamabad.



The meeting was informed that TDAP was leading a delegation of 12 exhibitors of Pakistan agri-products to Moscow next month to help create awareness about Pakistani products. It was also decided that the case of Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) with Russia will be more vigorously pursued to achieve access to the Russian market.


The Minister for Commerce apprised the meeting about the government’s efforts to seek a trade agreement with the Customs Union - Eurasian Economic Union, which includes Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus.


It was further decided in the meeting to invite Russian quarantine officials to visit Pakistan.
