Promoting investment: Punjab, Chinese province sign MoU

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the provincial government and the government of Jilian province of China on Thursday about creation of investment opportunities in the province for Jilian-based companies.


Speaking at the occasion, Jilin Chief Minister Bayanqolu said that there were vast prospects of investment in infrastructure development, agriculture, livestock, auto-industry and energy sectors (in Punjab).

Labour and Manpower Minister Raja Ashfaq Sarwar said the provincial government was working day in and day out to promote foreign investment in the province. He said Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was expected to lead a delegation to Jilian in the coming days to discuss more opportunities with prospective investors. He said the government was cognizant about the importance of security of foreigners living and working in areas under its jurisdiction. He assured the delegation that foolproof security measures were being put in place for Chinese citizens in the province.

Sarwar said he hoped that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor agreement would have far-reaching impact on the economic development in the two countries.

Punjab Board of Investment & Trade (PBIT) Chairman Abdul Basit, Agriculture Special Secretary Gulzar Shah, Industries/Livestock Secretary Nasim Sadiq and Personal Staff Officer to the Chief Minister Atta Ullah Tarar were also present on the occasion.
