Despite being dumped over text message by Zayn Malik, Perrie Edwards has been holding it together over the past couple of weeks. But the singer finally gave in to her grief as she broke down in tears during a performance in New York on Wednesday.

As reported by The Independent, the 22-year-old singer was performing live with her Little Mix bandmates on stage and started crying as she started singing the lyrics to the song The End, which features on the band’s upcoming third album Get Weird.

As her bandmates gathered around her to support her, Jesy Nelson turned to the crowd and joked that “It’s been a long day, and we’ve had no sleep, so I think this is why this has happened.

"We’re just very emotional.”

The audience then began chanting “We love you Perrie” in support, which soon trended on Twitter

Perrie has held her head high and focused on her music after her very public split up. The X Factor girl group also won their first Teen Choice Award for ‘Breakout Artist’ last week.

Black Magic, their current single, spent three weeks at the top of the UK charts, while interest in One Direction’s song Drag Me Down petered out much sooner.
