PESHAWAR: University of Peshawar Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Rasul Jan said modern research methods are crucial for preserving archeological sites that represent historical identity.

Speaking at the three-day international conference on culture and heritage at the varsity’s Bara Gali campus, Jan said the event will provide opportunities to researchers and scholars to share their experiences regarding the latest archeological discoveries.



Organisers of the moot that began on August 18, said some 70 research papers on heritage sites will be presented during the three days. The conference has been put together by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Directorate of Archaeology and Museums in collaboration with the UoP archaeology department.

During the moot, participants spoke about the research potential of numerous sites across the province, including the world heritage site Bhamala located in Haripur district. “We need to adopt new techniques to conduct research on archaeological sites,” said Department of Archaeology Chairman Dr Mukhtar Durrani. Meanwhile, Tourism, Archaeology and Youth Affairs Secretary Azam Khan voiced his intention to extend support to all researchers who wish to excavate archaeological sites in the province.”
