High and dry: Power outage at Murree chairlift leaves tourists hanging in midair
Nawaz annoyed at Patriata chairlift incident, reprimands concerned authorities
MURREE:
A large number of tourists, including women and children, were left hanging in midair after a power outage at Patriata in Murree stranded cable cars mid-journey.
The cable car's supplementary power supply system was offline with its backup generator offline pending repairs.
Till the filing of this report, despite the various efforts by lift operators, power could not be restored. People in the middle of the journey are stranded in their seats, while those who were at the last stop were brought back via road.
Faults in the cable car system at Patriata, installed at the cost of millions of rupees, have now become a routine matter.
PM expresses concerns over cable car fault
As news of the fault reached Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, he expressed his annoyance over incident, Radio Pakistan reported.
Reprimanding the concerned authorities over their failure to ensure a safe and hassle free journey for tourist, the premier has sought a report on the incident.
Nawaz asked why no alternate arrangement to rescue tourists had been made, and why a backup generator was not functioning.
