Crackdown: Action against substandard food items

We are conducting raids on information given by the public about the sale of underage chicks

RAWALPINDI:
Food suppliers and sellers in the city have been warned of stern action by the health executive district officer, should they be found selling unhygienic meat and dairy. “Action will be taken to control the sale of unhealthy meat,” said District Food Inspector Shahid Mehmood, adding that cases had been registered against those found selling water-injected meat. “We are conducting raids on information given by the public about the sale of underage chicks.” The inspector said his teams were raiding different localities including Khana Road, Sadiqabad and Bagh-e-Sardaran to stop the sale of unhealthy meat. Action against shopkeepers selling sub-standard food items was also under way, and a number of butchers have been held for selling the meat of dead and sick animals, as well as several others found selling adulterated milk, the official said.
