KHAR/ISLAMABAD:
The nine-year old son of PPP central executive committee member and former MNA Akhunzada Chattan was kidnapped by unidentified persons when he was leaving home for school in Bajuar Agency.

A family member said that Shah Husain was going to the Governor Model School, Khar, with his brother Hasan Ali when kidnappers hauled him away in a car from in front of their home.

The political administration and security forces have cordoned off all the exit and entrance points of the agency and started hectic search for the boy.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmed Khan and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar have directed the tribal law enforcing agency, the Frontier Constabulary, and the political administration to ensure safe and early recovery of the child.

Chattan remained PPP MNA from 2008 to 2013 and was an activist for Fata rights. He has been outspoken in the media about non-state actors.

Family source of Chattan said that he has no personal enmity or dispute with anyone in the area.

Officials of the political administration said that they have taken into custody a non-customs paid car which has been allegedly used in the kidnapping of Chattan’s son. The vehicle was seized from the Utmankhel Narai area. They have also arrested the owner of the car.

A local journalist who was familiar with Chattan told The Express Tribune that during an informal sitting Chattan told him that he had received threats from a militant organisation. Chattan said that he was staying out of the agency after a blast targeted him a few months ago, the journalist said.

Meanwhile, an official handout said that K-P governor telephoned Chattan and expressed sorrow over the incident.

The governor has asked IG of the Frontier Constabulary to coordinate with the political administration for the safe recovery of the child.

Another statement from Islamabad said that Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar has directed Commandant Frontier Constabulary Liaqat Ali Khan for the early recovery of the boy. “All kind of assistance must be provided to police for recovery of Chattan’s son,” it said.[With additional reporting by our correspondent in Islamabad]
