Police said on Sunday a man wanted for more than 20 robberies had been killed in a shootout on Sunday.

A police spokesman said Ahmadpur East Saddar SHO Malik Muhammad Iqbal Kharal, Sub Inspector Muhammad Akmal and ASI Muhammad Rafique were patrolling Tibi Hoth Mahaar village when Sub Inspector Ghulam Sarwar informed them that three men riding a motorbike had been signalled to stop for checking at KLP Road but they had fled towards Tibi Hoth Mahaar.

He said Kharal took the team to Talbani Chowk where they saw the riders.

The spokesman said the robbers finding themselves surrounded by police had turned towards Tibi Izat where their motorbike had skidded. He said the driver was injured when his leg got caught under it.

He said his two accomplices, who were carrying rifles, hid in the trees.

He said the injured man was asked to surrender. He said when he called out to his accomplices, they shot him. The spokesman said the men also fired at police, shattering a search light.

He said when police shot back, one of them was killed while the other escaped.

The spokesman said Shabbir was wanted for more than 20 cases of armed robbery. He said his injured accomplice had been taken to a hospital where doctors had later said his condition was stable. He said a team had been formed to find and arrest his accomplices.
