KARACHI:
Pakistan’s top-ranked golfer Shabbir Iqbal retained his title at the 17th edition of the Sindh Golf Open Championship and won Rs382,250 at the Arabian Sea Country Club in Karachi on Sunday.

Islamabad-based Shabbir scored an aggregate 13-under-par 203 in the three rounds of the championship. He finished the first round at six-under-par 66, second round at four-under-par 68 and last round at three-under-par 69 to grab 15.9% of the total prize money of Rs2.5 million.



“It feels great to retain the title and bring back my form after finishing third at the CNS Open Golf Cup,” Shabbir told The Express Tribune. “It gave me a boost to improve my skills and I proved to be number one.”

Muhammad Munir, who opened the first round with an impressive swing of eight-under-par 64, failed to keep his lead intact in the next two rounds as he scored one-under-par 71 in both subsequent rounds to finish with an aggregate 10-under-par 206 to secure second spot and take home Rs257,000.


The third place was secured by Matloob Qureshi from Lahore Garrison Golf and Country Club with seven-under-par 209 to pocket Rs159,375.

In the amateurs category, Salman Jahangir secured first place with a par score of 216, followed by Taimur Khan at two-over-par 218.

In the senior professional category, Imdad Hussain secured first place with a score of three-under-par 213 ahead of Hussain Akbar (218) and Muhammad Iqbal (220).
