KARACHI:
A day-long festival, titled Pak Fest 2015, organised at Alliance Francaise de Karachi under the theme, 'All for Fun, Fun for All' featured a wide variety of stalls offering items revolving around the culture of Pakistan on Saturday.
Special assistant to Sindh chief minister for culture, Sharmila Farooqi, inaugurated the festival. It aimed to showcase the best of Pakistani culture and featured stalls of jewellery, handbags, dresses and kurtis, child carriers, music stalls, arts and crafts stalls, and stalls for ice-cream and foods by different famous food brands of the city. A separate stall was set up for the biryani lovers, where foodies were spotted enjoying white biryani.
Sidra, a university student, was very happy as she was enjoying with her classmates. "This is so beautiful," she told The Express Tribune. "We were really exhausted as the university classes had just started after a long break. But this festival will help us get back to our routine as we are showcasing our handmade crafts here."
Malay food
An interesting feature of the festival was the stalls offering Malay food, particularly cakes and cupcakes. Abdul Mannan had just come back from Malaysia to celebrate the holidays with his family. "I have come here just to have some Malay brown chocolate cupcakes," he said.
Some political talk
Talking to the media, Farooqi said that events such as Pak Fest must be organised every month so that the people of Karachi can enjoy. Replying to a question, she said that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) must consider its decision regarding the resignations of its lawmakers from the national and provincial assemblies. She added that Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz leaders should not pass comments that can hurt the sentiments of the people of Sindh.
