Floods affect over 50,000 in lower Sindh

To facilitate the flood victims, 13 relief camps have been established in the district

Flood in the lower sections of River Indus have affected over 50,000 people in Jamshoro, Sujawal, Thatta. Warnings were also issued to people living in low-lying areas and close to the river bed in Vehari, Radio Pakistan reported.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the River Indus is currently in high flood at Guddu, Sukkur and Kotri, and in medium flood at Taunsa, whereas in low flood at Chashma, Tarbela and Kalabagh.

Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority Sindh Syed Salman Shah that those living in katcha areas had been shifted to safe havens and people living in relief camps were provided with ration and necessary medical care.

Moreover, Secretary Irrigation Sindh Syed Zaheer Haider Shah also said that water level would recede at Guddu and Sukkur barrages in next two or three days.

Further, over 55,000 cusecs of water will pass through River Sutlej with district administration warning residents to evacuate low-lying areas.

To facilitate flood victims, 13 relief camps have been established in the district while seven boats have also been arranged for any emergency.

The floods have so far left 207 people dead, injuring 157 people and affecting nearly 1.5 million.
