Woman tried giving her daughter up so she could have a better home

A Pakistani woman’s poignant story featured on Humans of New York prompted gushing support by people across the globe.

The portrait taken in Lahore shows the woman holding her baby in one hand as she wipes her tears with the other.

“I left an abusive relationship and I have nowhere to go. I have Hepatitis C, so no one is willing to take me in.” she says.

In the caption for the picture, she describes how she tried giving her up so she could have a better home but couldn’t bring herself to do it.

It was heartening to see that when her story went up on twitter many expressed a desire to find and help the woman. Here's the original post:

After the magnanimous response, the man behind HONY Brandon Stanton released an update, revealing that the woman was located and connected with a man who wished to help her.



Stanton also updated HONY's Facebook page advising people eager to help to wait until he sets up a proper and reliable channel.

In the final update, Stanton revealed that an email account has been set up to help the woman and other such people. The tweet also thanked people for their support.
