Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday restrained the Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) from proceeding against Muhammad Asif alias DJ Butt.
Butt had challenged the legality of a show-cause notice issued to him on July 7 by the authority. Advocate Ahmad Pansota, Butt’s counsel, told Justice Masud Abid Naqvi that the PRA had issued a notice to his client in a bid to recover Rs17.2 million in income tax. Pansota said the authority had failed to abide by rules before issuing the notice. He said the PRA had also failed to accurately estimate the income tax liability of his client. Pansota asked the court to set aside the authority’s tax assessment and restrain the Income Tax additional commissioner from proceeding against Butt on this account. Justice Naqvi restrained the PRA from proceeding in this regard till a verdict on the petition had been handed down and adjourned the hearing till August 17 following the completion of preliminary arguments.
