A 90-year-old Pashto poet and scholar passed away after reciting a poem at an Independence Day function in Thana area of Malakand on Friday. Participants at the event said the poet, Mamond Khan Torda, suffered from a cardiac arrest and died during the recitation.
Khan had witnessed the Pakistan Movement and was a regular participant at mushairas. He was also an active member of Yaran-e-Adab Adabi Tolana. His funeral prayers were held on Friday and he was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Dheri Ala Dhand. Writers said Torda’s death is a huge loss to Pashto literature.
