KARACHI:

Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah granted an additional amount of Rs336 million to the flood affectees living in relief camps for the past month.

He directed the finance department to release 50 per cent of the amount to Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) without any delay. "The affectees will not be left alone in this difficult time," he said at CM House on Thursday.

The CM asked the deputy commissioners of the riverine districts to co-ordinate with the PDMA, to monitor and ensure that relief assistance was being provided to the people.

Senior finance minister Syed Murad Ali Shah informed the meeting that Rs12million were provided to the worst-affected riverine districts and Rs7 million to the least-affected areas. Jamshoro and downstream Kotri Barrage faced a high flood situation where large scale displacement is still prevalent, he added. "Rs500 million were earmarked for relief activities out of which Rs450 million have been given to PDMA," remarked finance secretary Sohail Rajput.
