B-teach: ‘Regulatory body will be functional soon’

Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed has said that the National Technology Council (NTC) will soon start functioning to regulate and standardise technology-related degree courses.


While briefing members of the Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training at the HEC headquarters on Thursday, Dr Mukhtar said that the basic objective of establishing the council was to improve and standardized the quality of engineering technology education being offered by different institutes.

He also informed the legislators that the HEC also reviews and examines financial requirements of public sector institutions to provide funds on the basis of annual needs as well as for development and research related projects.


“The HEC also supports linkages between institutes and the industry as well as national and international organizations with a view to enhance basic as well as applied research,” Dr Mukhtar said.

He informed the committee that thousands of scholarships have been awarded for PhD scholars to study abroad in all major disciplines.

The HEC chairman also briefed the senators about various HEC initiatives for development of higher education.

Senator Rahila Magsi appreciated the HEC’s role for promotion of higher education and assured complete support of the committee for further strengthening it.
