Karachi Operation not against any political party: Information minister

Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid on Thursday clarified that the Karachi Operation is not against any political party while assuring that no compromise would be made in the operation.

"The operation is not against any political party or personality but against the criminal elements," the minister was quoted as saying by Radio Pakistan.

Addressing media in Islamabad, he said that the people of Karachi expressed satisfaction over the operation.

Commenting on the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) lawmakers' resignations from the Sindh and National Assemblies respectively on Wednesday, he deemed it a political issue adding that the party's reservations would be addressed.

MQM lawmakers had submitted their resignations following complaints that their genuine grievances were no being heard.

Earlier this week, Sindh Rangers confirmed that the first stage of the ongoing security operation in Karachi had been completed.

The Karachi operation had been kicked off by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on September 5, 2013, to root out crime and terrorism from the megalopolis.
