KARACHI:
The CNG rickshaw association filed a petition with the Sindh High Court on Wednesday seeking an end to the recent crackdown against the three-wheeler Qingqis in the city, which they describe as 'unjust.'

The traffic police started seizing the six-and-nine-seat CNG rickshaws in the metropolis following the decision of the province's top judiciary to ban the custom-made three-wheelers. The association contends that more than 10,000 families are being affected due to the crackdown and pleaded the court forbid the police from taking action against the CNG rickshaw owners.

The petitioner said that the court's decision was specific to motorcycle rickshaws, not against them, and the traffic controllers were misusing their powers by seizing their vehicles. However, the traffic police say that the CNG rickshaws are also not fit to be used in the mass transit system. They believe that these vehicles have no route permits and are prone to accidents.

The petition will be heard today (Thursday), which has provincial government, transport ministry and traffic police as respondents.
