PESHAWAR:

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has achieved considerable milestones by passing momentous legislation and helping govern the province better over the past two years.

This was said by Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser at a conference titled ‘Reforming K-P’s Probation Regime’ held at a hotel in the city on Tuesday. The event was organised by Aitebaar in collaboration with Research Society of International Law.

Addressing participants, Qaiser said the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission Act 2014, Right to Information Act 2013 and the Right to Public Services Act 2014 are some of the major achievements of the house.

“All our efforts are aimed at achieving good governance in the province,” he said.

According to Qaiser, these legal reforms are based on recommendations from a wide range of working groups.

“The standing committees have been tasked with identifying grave lacunae in the laws,” he said.

The speaker said consultation with the law department and the advocate general office should continue to deliberate on the minutiae of the bills which have been proposed.

Time to change

During the conference, a report on major reforms required in law and jurisprudence was also released. The findings of the report are based on a study conducted by both organisations to identify areas which require critical reform and review current legislation and jurisprudence.
