At least 13 people were killed and 22 others sustained injuries on Monday when a trailer slammed into several cars on the main Quetta-Karachi RCD Highway in the Mangochar area of Kalat district.
A loaded trailer, bound for Mangochar from Karachi, crashed into several cars and nearby shops in the congested main bazaar of Khaliqabad, Kalat Deputy Commissioner Tufail Baloch said.
“Thirteen persons, including two non-residents and the trailer’s driver were killed, while 25 inhabitants of Khaliqabad were critically injured. Several shops and up to five stationary vehicles were damaged,” he said.
The Balochistan Levies and the Frontier Corps soldiers rushed to the spot and began rescue operations.
The main RCD Highway remained blocked for nearly two hours after the accident.
Meanwhile, the injured were shifted to nearby Mastung Hospital while bodies of the victims were handed over to their legal heirs after medical formalities.
