Healthcare woes : Pindi hospital project in limbo for last 10 years
Due to negligence of the authorities, the under-construction building has dilapidated

The Mother and Child Hospital project in Rawalpindi has been in limbo for the last 10 years.
An official of the district government said the project worth Rs4 billion was launched in 2006 on a 200-kanal land but construction work had not yet been completed despite utilisation of Rs2 billion.
Due to negligence of the authorities, the under-construction building has dilapidated, and stray dogs and drug addicts are using the premises as shelter.
Initially, the federal government was funding the project but later it was transferred to the provincial government, which has yet to begin work on the hospital building.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader and former MPA Shakeel Awan said that the Punjab chief minister had approved discretionary funds for the pending project and work would start soon.
“A special committee has been formed to look into the matter and the project will be completed by the end of this year,” he added.
