Potable water: Saaf Pani Company to seek bids with relaxed criteria
Shahbaz Sharif directed the PSPC management to ensure availability of clean drinking water across the province by February 2017
LAHORE:
The Punjab Saaf Pani Company (PSPC) will rationalise its selection criteria and float a fresh request for proposals (RFPs) for its potable water schemes in the province, The Express Tribune has learnt.
The decision was taken after none of the eight pre-qualified firms could meet technical requirements laid out in the proposal documents, PSPC Chief Executive Officer Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry told The Express Tribune on Monday.
Chaudhry said the shortlisted companies included reputed national and international firms. He said the technical requirements would be relaxed and a new round of RFP taken up in accordance with the directives of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
He was speaking after attending a meeting chaired by the chief minister.
Chaudhry said that the PSPC had divided the province into eight packages and started work on three packages in the first phase. These covered Faisalabad, Okara, Toba Tek Singh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Kasur districts. He said that the company had floated a Rs1 billion tender for provision of clean drinking water in Bahawalpur district.
He said the PSPC was exploring various techniques for filtration of water. “We do not want to restrict our expertise to the reverse osmosis (RO) method for filtration,” he said. He said that the PSPC was working on developing a solar-based water filtration system. He added that it would also explore other innovative and cost-effective solutions.
Earlier, Sharif directed the PSPC management to ensure availability of clean drinking water across the province by February 2017.
He said third party audits should be ensured for all potable water schemes started by the company.
