Unsafe streets: Stray dogs bite dozen people in Swat
If the district government does not address the issue we will protest against it
MINGORA:
Over 12 people were bitten by stray dogs in Matta tehsil of Swat district over the weekend. Locals threaten protest against the district administration if action is not against the issue.
These dogs have been biting people in the tehsil and in surrounding villages for a while now, Fazil Bandha village elder Mian Gohar told The Express Tribune. “Some of them just attack passers-by.”
The 12 people bitten by dogs include a woman and two children. They were vaccinated at the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. Gohar said town municipal officials have been approached numerous times but no one has paid attention.
“If the district government does not address the issue we will protest against it,” Gohar added.
Blood lust
The agitated locals are even willing to kill the dogs. “The security forces and the police have taken all our weapons,” said Gohar. “If we had the chance we would get rid of the dogs on our own.”
At present, he added, no one dares to shoot the dogs because even if they fire a single bullet police and security forces rush to the area and launch an operation which is mostly a door-to-door search. “They arrest those who have weapons hence no one dares to take action on their own.”
