LAHORE:
One of the first pop-music icons of the Pakistani entertainment industry, Muhammad Ali Shyhaki, attributes the decline in the quality of music being produced to the ‘unprofessional’ attitude of local musicians, reported Roznama Express.

Shyhaki, who had been residing in the United States for some time, spoke about the disappointment he felt when he saw sub-standard music being produced in a country that was once known for its beautiful melodies.

“When I returned to Pakistan after having resided in the US for several years, I was disappointed to see that the local music scene had been completely ruined and was only getting worse by the day,” he said.

Having been part of the glory days of Pakistani music, Shyhaki is keen on rectifying this wrong, “I am making an effort on my part to create quality music for listeners. Apart from that, I am also in touch with senior musicians,” he added.

Shyhki, who started out as a musician during the PTV days, spoke fondly about his early days in the industry, recalling how producer Umair Imam introduced him on the programme Naghma Zar, where his song, Nazar Nazar Tere Jalway, shot him to fame.

He later came out with hit songs, such as Mere Bachpan Ke Din and Ye Pehli Pehli Barish. He also collaborated with Alan Faqeer to record the megahit song Teray Ishq Mein Jo Doob Gaya.

Since his return to Pakistan in 2011, the singer has so far released a revamped version of Teray Ishq Mein, featuring a US-based singer, Raskia, as a co-vocalist.
