Foreign investment: Egypt to invest in energy sector

Egyptian ambassador says the project will start soon and will be divided and expanded in four phases.

ISLAMABAD:
Where financial aid is pouring into Pakistan for rehabilitation and reconstruction projects in the flood-affected areas, Egyptian investors are looking into the energy sector as a new dimension for foreign investment.

Foreign investors in Pakistan have mainly focused on contemporary sectors such as health and education, but they are now expanding their horizon and investing into sectors such as energy. “Energy is a very important investment in Pakistan, said Egypt’s Ambassador to Pakistan Magdy Mahmoud Amer at a press conference here.

The ambassador said the project will start soon and will be divided and expanded in four phases. “Renewable energy is a new sector for Egyptian companies in Pakistan,” said Amer.  He added that there is a possibility of exporting non-traditional items from Pakistan to Egypt. “We are exploring non-traditional ways where we will be importing meat and wheat from Pakistan as opposed to other products,” he said.
