‘Unreasonable’ demands: Police refuse to escort judges, lawyers

Police, however, have said that they do not have enough personnel to provide security to all judges and lawyers

RAWALPINDI:
Rawalpindi police have refused to provide security to all civil judges and lawyers saying it is impossible for them to escort every single judge and lawyer due to shortage of personnel. Rawalpindi District Bar Association President GM Shah said judges of sessions and anti-terrorism courts (ATC) were being provided police security while civil judges and lawyers pursuing sensitive cases did not have any security. “Many lawyers pursuing sensitive cases in ATCs have been kidnapped and killed in the past,” he said adding that the bar has deiced to protest against this ‘discrimination’. Police, however, have said that they do not have enough personnel to provide security to all judges and lawyers.
