GHALLANAI: A jirga in Mohmand Agency has thrown its weight behind the political administration and armed forces to eradicate militancy from Mohmand Agency.

Elders of Wali Baig, Kamali Haleemzai, Hamza Khel and Kadi Khel sub-tribes of the Haleemzai tribe gathered in agency headquarters Ghallanai on Saturday. Maulana Abdul Haq, Maulana Samiullah, Malik Sahib Dad, Malik Haji Amir Nawaz Khan, Malik Mohammad Ayaz, Malik Jehan Zeb, Malik Karim, Salim Sardar and others took part in the jirga. Tribal elders at the jirga expressed willingness to fight alongside security forces and eliminate militancy from the region. They said radicalisation has deprived their children of the right to education and has destroyed the social fabric of the tribal society.

Participants decided to unconditionally support the political administration to restore normalcy in Haleemzai tehsil. Tribal elders lauded the government’s efforts to conduct various sporting activities such as the Mohmand Sports Festival and Tour de Mohmand to bring peace and stability back to Mohmand. “Peace has been restored and 95% of the areas have been cleared,” said a tribal elder.
