Two men were arrested on Friday for killing their son-in-law in separate incidents in Bahawalpur.
A police spokesman said Ghulam Abbas, a resident of Noorpur Jadeed village near Uch Sharif had married his maternal uncle’s daughter a month ago.
He said last week, Abbas proposed marriage of his two brothers to his wife’s sisters. He said Abbas’s father-in-law, Fayyaz, turned the proposal down.
“Abbas went to his house to persuade him to change his mind,” the spokesman said. “They had an argument, following which Fayyaz grabbed an axe and hit Abbas with it. He died on spot.” The spokesman said police had taken the body in custody and had taken it to Uch Sharif rural health centre for post mortem examination. He said Fayyaz had been arrested.
Separately, a man was arrested for clubbing his son-in-law to death after an argument in Mohallah Islampura.
Police said Mashooq and his son-in-law Tariq had an argument over a property dispute.
They said on Friday, Tariq and his friends confronted Mashooq. They said both parties had an argument and broke into a brawl. Police said Mashooq hit Tariq’s head with a club. He died on the spot. ASP Munawar Ali Ghauri took the body in custody and handed it over to police for post mortem examination.
