Sajjad claims back-to-back wins on opening day
Changezi follows compatriot’s lead in IBSF World 6-Red Championships
KARACHI:
Pakistan’s Mohammad Sajjad was off to an explosive start on the opening day of the IBSF World 6-Red Championships as he won back-to-back matches on Friday at the Movenpick Hotel Karachi.
Sajjad showed no mercy against his opponents, first defeating Saudi Arabia’s Yousef Alwadi 4-0 with scores of 44(30)-01, 26-11, 42-21 and 39-01, followed by a straight-frames triumph over Abdulla Mujairan of Bahrain.
Sajjad was delighted with his promising start in the event as he is keen to improve his performances in the shorter format. “It’s always good to start off well because it boosts your confidence,” Sajjad told The Express Tribune. “I want to show everyone that I can be a genuine title contender in the 6-Red competition and I’m really focused on winning the world championship at home. There are pretty good players out here but if I play to my potential, then I can certainly make this opportunity count.”
Another home player Shahram Changezi also notched up double wins on the first day.
He thumped Loshka Perrera of Sri Lanka 4-0 and then got the better of Hong Kong’s Man Hoi Leong in a similar manner.
Youngster Mohammad Majid Ali cruised to a comfortable 4-0 win over Bahrain’s Mohammed Omar, while Asjad Iqbal had to work for a 4-2 victory against UAE’s Marwan Alfalasi.
Egypt’s Mohammad Khairy downed Hunain Amir 4-2, while Babar Masih thumped Bahrain’s Sadiq Alghuraifi 4-1.
Abdul Raheem also enjoyed a good start in the competition with a comfortable 4-1 rout of Qatar’s Ali Alobaidli.
