The centre will provide resources and training to students who wish to conduct research on Pakistan’s energy, water and agricultural and security needs.” The statement added that the centre has become fully operational.

“An orientation ceremony for students who belong to underprivileged families will be held soon,” stated the document. “Students will be awarded USAID scholarships at the ceremony.”

UET entrance test

The entrance test for UET was successfully conducted on Thursday in Peshawar, DI Khan, Swat and Abbottabad.

According to a handout issued on Thursday, over 9,000 candidates appeared for the exam in Peshawar. However, 515 women and 13,738 men appeared in all four centres. “The test was conducted by the Educational Testing and Evaluating Agency (ETEA),” the handout said. “The results of the test will be announced on Friday (today) on the ETEA website (www.etea.edu.pk). The result will also be displayed on UET’s main noticeboard on the university premises.”

Adequate facilities

UET Peshawar Vice Chancellor Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani said he was satisfied with the arrangements made for the test.

“The entrance test was conducted at two venues in Peshawar to accommodate the large number of students who appeared for it,” he said. Gilani also lauded the campus police for providing foolproof security during the test.

“Candidates were provided bottled water at the centres,” he said. “Paramedics and ambulance were also put on standby at the centres.”
