Beleaguered Customer: UPS seller sued for Rs1 million

He said he bought a UPS from Shaikh Mehmood for Rs11,000 on May 6

LAHORE:
Preliminary arguments on a suit seeking Rs1 million as damages over a faulty UPS and maltreatment will be presented in a consumer court on August 27. Petitioner Hafiz Waqas has sued the proprietor of Aziz Electronics on Hall Road for selling him a faulty UPS and charging him for a repair job even though the UPS had a year’s warrantee. He said he bought a UPS from Shaikh Mehmood for Rs11,000 on May 6. It began malfunctioning within a few days so he complained about it to Mehmood who told him to bring it to his shop. Waqas said the UPS had a warrantee for a year under which he was entitled to free parts and service in case of a malfunction. However, he said, Mehmood charged him Rs2,200 for the repair job. “When I told him that he wasn’t supposed to charge me, he used abusive language and beat me up.” He said other workers in the shop grabbed his wallet and snatched Rs27,500 and his ATM card.
