The business community observed a shutter down strike in Hyderabad and other districts on Wednesday as part of their ongoing protests against the levy of tax on bank transactions. It was the second strike in six days.
The strike was called by Anjuman Tajran-e-Sindh (Association of Traders of Sindh). Meanwhile, a protest was held by traders outside the Karachi Press Club on Wednesday. The campaigners protested against the imposition of withholding tax on banking transactions. The demonstration was organised by the All Pakistan Traders Association.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) announced the support for the traders' cause. PTI leaders joined the protest while the MQM Rabita Committee said that they support the demands of the business community, and demanded the government to withdraw the invalid tax imposition.
