NAB arrests three officials for embezzlement

SUKKUR/ KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Sukkur, arrested two officials of the provincial building department on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in corruption. According to NAB sources, two officials from Sukkur and Larkana were arrested by NAB after completing the inquiry regarding their corruption in the provincial building department.

Those arrested are executive engineer Abdul Naeem Soomro and Riaz Kalhoro, sources said. Soomor and Kalhoro were produced in the court on Wednesday and were granted 14 days remand by the court after hearing their case. NAB sources said that arrest warrants for both the officials were issued earlier, but they had gone into hiding. Both the officials were involved in corruption of Rs15 million, the sources added.



Meanwhile, another accused was arrested by NAB, Karachi, for his alleged involvement in the misappropriation of public funds. The accused, Atif Ali Faiz, is a resident of Balanwala, Sialkot. According to the NAB spokesperson, Faiz committed the offence of abetting the embezzlement of public funds by opening a bank account in ABL Raiwind branch, Lahore, by using fake documents of Qavi Engineers Pvt Ltd.

The account was later used for credit payment received from the Punjab Accountant General office against fake bills of Walled City of Lahore Authority. Faiz was presented before the Accountability Court for a  three-day transit remand.
