Three people were killed after the roof of their two-storey house collapsed near Chiniot police station on Wednesday.


The Chiniot SHO said the roof of Sarfaraz Ahmad’s house in Mohallah Garha had been damaged in the rain.


He said the roof caved in while his family was asleep early on Wednesday morning.


He said 45-year-old Sarfraz Ahmad, his 36-year-old wife Nasreen Bibi, 15-year-old daughter Sidra, 12-year-old son Abdur Rehman, 10-year-old son Abdullah, eight-year-old son Sunny, six-year-old daughter Sehar and four-year-old daughter Roma were trapped under the debris.


 He said neighbours called Rescue 1122. He said Rescue 1122 teams pulled out the family after a three-hour effort.


The SHO said Ahmad, his wife and his daughter Roma had died when they were found.


He said Sidra was taken to a hospital for treatment.


 He said the others were were given first aid on the spot. Chiniot DCO Shaukat Ali Khan Khichi took a team to the site and supervised the rescue operation. Later, the DCO visited the hospital and inquired about the injured girl.


The bodies were handed over to their relatives for burial.
