MUZAFFARGARH:

A family court in Layyah on Friday sentenced a man to three months in prison and fined him Rs500,000 for contracting a second marriage without the consent of his first wife and without approval from the union council, in violation of the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance.

Senior Civil Judge (Family Division) convicted Muhammad Hassni Mubbarak and cancelled his bail, sending him to jail after the verdict.

The court also ordered an additional 15 days' imprisonment in case of non-payment of the fine. The judge declared the second marriage was contracted without fulfilling mandatory legal requirements.
