A police official told The Express Tribune the drive was conducted in Mattani, Badhaber, Mathra, Daudzai, Khazana, Urmar and Chamkani.
“The operation began in the morning and lasted for several hours,” he said.
During the operation, police raided the houses of proclaimed offenders and thoroughly searched the area.
“Around 119 people were arrested on suspicion charges,” he said. “In addition, we also arrested nine proclaimed offenders and 14 unregistered Afghan nationals. They have been taken into custody and are being interrogated.”
Effective surveillance
According to the official, police had managed to track down the proclaimed offenders through their SIM cards.
The police also recovered 43 vehicles through the high-end vehicle verification SIM (VVS) system.
Under this verification system, data of all the vehicles registered in the country has been centralised for mass surveillance. “We also recovered 27 pistols, four rifles, 216 cartridges and one AK-47 rifle,” the official added.
The operation was conducted due to a steady rise in criminal activities in the areas.
“For many years, we had allocated most of our resources towards tackling militancy,” the official said. “As a result, no one was paying attention to crimes such as thefts, robberies and car-lifting which have become fairly common in the area. We plan to take matters into our own hands to prevent the situation from spiralling out of control.”
