Burqa-clad Gisele Bündchen sparks outrage after secret visit to plastic surgeon
Former Victoria's Secret angel faces harsh criticism over choice of clothing in holy month of Ramazan
The Brazilian beauty and former Victotria's Secret angel, Gisele Bündchen, sparked outrage when she was snapped by paparazzi wearing a burqa.
In an attempt keep her visit to a plastic surgeon a secret, the 35-year-old and her sister, covered up in a burqa during the month of Ramazan which created an uproar among the French.
France banned the use of the burqa in 2010, barring women from fully covering their faces.
Photos of the burqa-clad model and younger sister Rafaela surfaced across social media, bringing with it angry comments and views.
“C’est ridicule!!!” wrote a commentator on the French gossip site Public, according to the New York Post. “To be photographed in a burqa is ridiculous!!!! Especially since it is forbidden in France to wear it!!!!”
“She would do better to fess up to the plastic surgery because that’s not shameful. I never found her beautiful and I definitely don’t like her now,” another anonymous user posted.
Commenting on the French law, one user said "In the street it is illegal to wear the burqa! It therefore violated French law. A cap and a scarf would have been less conspicuous!”
Imam Muhammad Abdullah Kamal Al-Azhari of the Astoria Islamic Centre in Queens told the New York Post that Bundchen’s actions were highly offensive to the more conservative Muslims.
“She’s not doing it for Islam. This is very bad,” he said. “She’s wearing a holy thing for a bad purpose.”
Some however took a more comical approach on the incident:
“A new purpose for the burqa and abaya: ignorance,” Hussain Al Hareth tweeted.
“Probably, it will soon become the most popular style among celebrities and stars,” tweeted Jamal Hussein Ali in Arabic.
“Clothes look good on her,” joked Mona Ahmad from Kuwait.
The ex-model was reportedly paying a visit to a plastic surgery clinic in Paris, France. According to Dailymail, 35-year-old Gisele has reportedly undergone a surgery for her sagging breasts and eyes. The sources revealed that the surgery costs around $11,000.
Although, one cannot identify Gisele, it is quite evident that the woman in the picture is the ex-model as she is accompanied by her longtime chauffeur.
Just two weeks before the said surgery, the two sisters were spotted leaving the same clinic.
The same chauffeur was spotted accompanying the Brazilian sisters on both visits to the clinic.
He has worked for Gisele for almost five years now and was seen driving her around Paris on July 14.
Gisele's sister Rafaela was spotted carrying the same backpack at the airport on July 24 that was seen on July 15.
Neither of the Bündchen sisters have commented.
