Balochistan unrest: Commander among two militants killed (National 2-3)

Nearly a dozen suspected militants rounded up in various search operations

At least two militants, including a local commander of a banned outfit, were killed and nearly a dozen suspected militants were arrested in various targeted search operations in Balochistan on Thursday.


According to the Frontier Corps (FC) spokesman FC forces and security agencies launched a search operation on a tip-off against militants in the Wadh area of Khuzdar.

“A commander of Lashkar-e-Balochistan and his aide were killed in an exchange of fire,” he said, adding that the FC also seized four SMGs with rounds from their possession.



The spokesman said that the militants were wanted in a number of cases.

A soldier also sustained bullet injuries during the operation, he added.

11 militants rounded up At least 11 suspected militants were rounded up in different search operations in Panjgur and Quetta on Thursday.

The spokesman said that the FC forces carried out a search operation in the Tusp area of Panjgur and held seven miscreants.


“Seven militants were arrested in a targeted search operation,” he said, adding that the FC also seized a number of Kalashnikovs with two magazines and 45 rounds. They recovered some suspected passports, ID cards and weapons licences also.

In another incident, the spokesman said, the paramilitary forces, deployed at the Joudhar check-post in Panjgur district, signalled a vehicle to stop. Instead two suspected militants opened fire on them and tried to speed away. The security personnel promptly returned fire and arrested them with bullet injuries.

One RPG7 with two magazines and SMGs rounds were seized from their possession, he added.

In the Quetta crackdown, the paramilitary forces acted on an intelligence report, raiding the Government Science College and nabbing two suspected militants of a proscribed outfit.

Bodies found

Two bodies, including one of a child, were found in Quetta and Turbat on Thursday.

SHO Kechi Baig Ashiq Khatak told The Express Tribune that a police mobile team during a routine patrol spotted a body lying in a drain in Kechi Baig area.

They shifted the body to a nearby hospital where he was identified as 8-year-old Zakir Ahmed Meanwhile, a corpse was found in the Mand area of Turbat district. The body was identified as that of Sadam Wali, a resident of Nazarabad neighbourhood of Tump.

“The body was riddled with multiple bullets,” Balochistan Levies official Amanullah said.
