BAHAWALPUR:
An additional district and sessions judge on Wednesday sentenced a murder convict to death and acquitted another giving him the benefit of doubt.
Prosecution said Zahir Pir police had arrested Mureed Abbas, a resident of Basti Makhdoomabad, after he shot dead one Basheer Ahmed believing that he wanted to marry the former’s fiancé. Prosecution said he had attacked Ahmed as he left his house. They said Ahmed had died on the spot.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Zubair Chughtai convicted Abbas of killing Ahmed and sentenced him to death.
He was also fined Rs200,000. His alleged accomplice, Madah Hussain, was acquitted on account of some doubt regarding his role.
