LAHORE: Employees of the Ravi Town administration on Wednesday staged a demonstration against the incumbent health deputy district officer for the town. The protesting employees threatened to boycott ongoing campaigns against dengue and polio diseases if DDO Syed Sarfaraz was not removed from the office.

The demonstration led to a traffic jam at Azadi Chowk, causing inconvenience to commuters.

The protesters stated that Sarfaraz had been accused of embezzlement of funds and harassment during his term as the Health DDO in Data Ganj Bakhsh Town. They said instead of removing him from the post and holding an inquiry against him the district administration had transferred him to Ravi Town. They said an inquiry against the DDO was under way at Lahore district headquarters (DHQ) hospital.  Addressing the protesters, All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) Allied Health Staff president Muhammad Suleman Khan claimed that Sarfaraz had been transferred from Data Ganj Bakhsh Town to let the dust settle on corruption charges against him. He was accompanied by several APCA office-bearers.

The demonstration ended after Safdar Virk, the Ravi Town administrator, came to the scene and assured the protesters that there concerns would be addressed.

Health DDO Syed Sarfaraz was not available for comment.
