LAHORE:

An international vocational institute will certify 15,000 TEVTA graduates, said TEVTA Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh on Wednesday.

Addressing a meeting, he said that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) had been signed with the City & Guilds, a vocational education organisation based in the United Kingdom.

“The courses being offered by TEVTA will be accredited by City & Guilds. It will be beneficial for students because City & Guilds is recognised all over the world, especially in Middle East, due to its internationally accredited academic standards. It will enable our students to get jobs in foreign markets,” he said.

He said that the collaboration was a part of efforts by the TEVTA to train two million people during the next three years. “The implementation of the agreement will help raise the standard of skill development and improve training system in the Punjab. There is a growing demand for Pakistani skilled manpower in international markets. Certification of City & Guilds will lead to availability of job opportunities to the Pakistani youth in the Middle East,” he said.

The Urban Sector Planning and Management Services Unit and the Punjab Skills Development Fund (PSDF) on Wednesday inaugurated a three-month vocational and skills development training programme in Lahore.

The programme is being offered free of cost. It was launched in an inaugural ceremony attended by educationists and government representatives.
