LAHORE:

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) supports the decision of traders’ associations to start a country-wide strike against the imposition of a withholding tax on all banking transactions for Rs50,000 and above, PTI Punjab organiser Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar said on Wednesday.

He said the PTI would join the traders in their demonstrations against the tax on August 1.

Sarwar said with the imposition of the tax the government was making the people pay for its failed policies. “A withholding tax on banking transactions is a drone attack by the government on the national economy,” he said. He said no country could progress without strengthening its economy.

Sarwar demanded that the government immediately withdraw the tax.

He said with its vision for the country, the PTI would solve all longstanding problems and put the economy on the path to progress and prosperity. He said under the leadership of Imran Khan, the PTI was fighting a war against corruption.

Abdul Aleem Khan, political adviser to Imran Khan, also supported the traders’ bodies’ call for strike and demanded resignation of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

PTI chief Imran Khan is scheduled to visit the city on Thursday (today) and hold a press conference on the matter.
