KCCI urges K-Electric to improve performance
Attributes recent outages to weak infrastructure.

Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Acting President Agha Shahab Ahmed Khan, while expressing deep concern over K-Electric’s (KE) poor performance, urged the utility service provider to focus on improving its infrastructure, particularly the electricity distribution network which is in a terrible state.
In a statement, Khan pointed out that due to K-Electric’s cost cutting measures, almost all the localities of Karachi city have to suffer unannounced load-shedding and power failures everyday.
“People from different walks of life, who have been inhabiting in various localities, sought KCCI’s assistance in pressurising KE to ensure uninterrupted power supply,” he said, adding that it has also come to KCCI’s knowledge and was a matter of grave concern that it usually takes up to 10 to 15 hours for KE staff to detect and rectify a power failure fault in many localities of the metropolitan city of Karachi.
The acting president pointed out that KE has been earning huge profits every year but, unfortunately, it has not been adequately investing in improving the dilapidated distribution network.
He said that instead of improving the distribution network, KE has been replacing reliable copper wires with comparatively cheaper and low-quality aluminum wires, which are purely incapable of managing the electricity load in various areas of the city.
