ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has declined the Pakistan Cricket Board’s request to exempt it from paying income tax, a senior FBR officer confirmed to The Express Tribune.

“All cricket boards around the world pay income tax so why should the PCB be any different and be exempt from it?” said the official. “Apart from that, if we start exempting organisations then how is this country going to progress. Where are we going to collect our taxes from?

“This is why the PCB will not be exempted and will not be an exception to income tax. They will have to pay just like the other organisations in the country.”

FBR’s officials also said that failure by the board to pay the tax would have forced the FBR to wash their hands with millions of rupees which would have led to an increase in their revenue shortfall.
