Jansher vows revival of lost squash glory
Former world champion appointed PSF advisor and coach.
KARACHI:
The Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) has appointed former world champion Jansher Khan as the chief coach of the national side and advisor to the body in a bid to improve the country’s standing in the sport.
The decision was taken following a meeting of the top PSF officials, including President Rao Qamar Suleman, with the legendary player in Islamabad. Jansher, a record eight-time World Open champion, said he accepted the post as a challenge and would make all possible efforts to rekindle squash’s lost glory.
“This position is a challenge for me. I’m thankful to the PSF for giving me the responsibility and assuring their support for revival of the game,” Jansher told The Express Tribune.
The Former squash legend said his main focus would be to work with the players at the grass root level.
“We would work on players in the age group of 11 to 15 years,” said Jansher, adding his main target would be next year’s World Junior Championship. “Pakistan has not won the world junior title since 1986. It’s my main target to prepare youngsters for this event.”
According to Jansher he has already visited the camps in Islamabad and Peshawar and would continue to scout out youngsters from other parts of the country during his tenure.
