ISLAMABAD:

At least one civilian was critically wounded due to unprovoked firing by Indian forces early Saturday morning at the Chirri sector of Rawlakot in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

A resident of Polas village, Mohammad Wasim, was hit in the neck by a bullet fired by Indian forces from across the Line of Control, defence sources said. A buffalo was also killed in the firing.

Indian forces again breached the ceasefire agreement and opened fire with machineguns on civilian population near the LoC, defence sources said. Pakistani security forces gave a befitting reply to the aggression and silenced the Indian guns.

Both sides exchanged gunfire in the last week with four people killed on the Pakistani side by India’s Border Security Force. Another five Pakistanis have been injured.

On Pakistan’s invitation, a team of the UN Military Observers Group for India and Pakistan visited the affected towns on Monday to evaluate the damage caused by the Indian firing.

Later on Tuesday, Rawalpindi Corps Commander Lt Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa visited troops stationed on forward locations along the LoC in Rawalakot and Nezpair sectors, where he exchanged Eid greetings with soldiers.
