FAISALABAD:
Scores of residents of Shehzad Town staged a protest demonstration on Thursday against Factory Area police for failing to arrest a man involved in the killing of wrestler Dilbar Hussain.
The protesters, including a large number of women and children, gathered at Jhang Road and blocked it for traffic. They burnt old tyres and chanted slogans against the police.Talking to newsmen, Riffat Bibi, widow of the deceased, said her Hussain had been an international wrestler. “He was called out from by unidentified three months ago,” she said. She said they had shot him and fled. “My husband died on the spot.”She said a complaint had been moved at Factory Area police station.
She claimed that police had been bribed by the suspects and were protecting them. She said several policemen had demanded money from her to investigate the case.
The protesters also blocked traffic on Jhang-Faisalabad Road near Model Bazaar.
The Gulberg DSP met the protesters and assured them that the case would be investigated on merit and those behind the killing would be arrested. The protesters dispersed on receiving this assurance. Talking to The Express Tribune, the Factory Area SHO said police had arrested a suspect but in preliminary investigation, the charges could not be proved. He said the suspect had then secured bail from a sessions court. He said any police official found accepting a bribe would be taken to task.
