KARACHI:
Following the raid at Biryani of The Seas restaurant on Thursday night, the Rangers issued a statement on Friday claiming to have arrested an alleged target killer.

The restaurant is owned by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MNA Ali Raza Abidi. According to the Rangers, Yameen alias AD, involved in 10 cases of murder including those of four at Goodluck Gardens in 2014, was arrested during the raid at the restaurant.

They said that they had been observing the restaurant and had information about the presence of target killers there. Yameen is also involved in robberies and forceful shutdown of markets during strikes, said the Rangers.

Meanwhile, Bots continued to remain shut after the raid on Thursday. Questioning the Rangers' claims, Abidi said that if the Rangers had seen the alleged target killer earlier at the restaurant, why they did not arrest him then. "Why did they arrest my cousin who is the manager?" he asked. "Why did they seize and confiscate equipment? Why did they seal the restaurant?"

He further questioned if all airports, coffee shops, hotels and malls be closed down and sealed if target killers are visiting them or this formula applies on MQM representatives' businesses alone.

Yameen to be grilled

Yameen was presented before the anti-terrorism court III by the Rangers who informed about his three-month grilling.  Earlier, the paramilitary spokesperson in a statement had claimed that the suspect was involved in at least 10 target killings across the city and was apprehended on a tip-off about his presence at the restaurant. However, no such document supporting this claim was submitted by the Rangers to the court.
