GILGIT:

A man was killed while three others were injured in separate incidents of target killing and attempted murder in Gilgit on Friday night.

Ejaz Khan, a local, was shot in the head at 10:30pm near NLI Market when he was heading home. He was a resident of Yadgar Chowk area.

Police arrested two men – a father and his son – in connection with the incident.

The murder created a wave of panic and raised fears that the killing was triggered by sectarian motives. However, the arrest of both suspects allayed such concerns.

“We have arrested Ejaz’s killers during a raid late at night,” said police officer Zahoor Ahmed. “The murder isn’t triggered by sectarian motives. On the contrary, the attack was based on a personal enmity.”

Shooting incident

In a separate incident which occurred in Majini Mohallah, Sadiq, another local, was shot and injured by two armed assailants who were travelling on a motorcycle near his house. “Two others were also injured during the firing,” a police official told The Express Tribune. “One of the two is in a critical condition while the other person is out of danger.”

Police have registered a case and launched a manhunt.
